The heart suit frequently shows up when Hisoka is threatening violence, explaining a trick, or generally having fun. At the time of doing this, I have volumes 1-35, which spans ALL of Hisoka’s appearances in the manga as of April 2019. I used the VIZ translation of the manga as my source for this. I went through the manga and tracked what card suits Hisoka uses for who and when. “Clover” gets used more when he is thinking something over.”) (Though Ishida, who wrote/illustrated the Hisoka backstory chapter, studied the suits and thought ““Diamond” was often used when Hisoka is being serious. Togashi also says that the other card suits that punctuate Hisoka’s speech in the manga are just chosen by intuition. In that one interview Togashi states that Hisoka’s speech bubbles are punctuated by hearts when he is talking to people he likes.
